MULTISTORY* Guest Lecture Stephanie Macdonald Thursday 1st November 6pm

We are pleased to announce a MULTISTORY* guest lecture by

Stephanie Macdonald // 6a Architects

Thursday 1st November 2018 // Lecture 6pm

Stephanie Macdonald founded 6a architects with her partner Tom Emerson in 2001 after meeting at the Royal College of Art. The practice has gained an international reputation for producing award winning cultural buildings, especially in the arts and education. The work is defined by a simple humanity and material clarity, coalescing the historical and contemporary narratives around a project to find its form.

Recent projects include the new South London Gallery Fire station, Cowan Court, a 68 bed student halls of residence for Churchill College, Cambridge, Coastal House and Blue Mountain School. Current work includes MK Gallery, in Milton Keynes, due to open in early 2019 and significant projects across the UK, in New York, Hamburg and Melbourne. The practices new photography studio for Juergen Teller was shortlisted for the RIBA Stirling Award in 2017. In 2018 Stephanie Macdonald was nominated for the Women in Architecture Award and in the same year Tom Emerson was awarded the Conrad Ferdinand Meyer Prize for his work within his chair at ETH in Zürich, for the Manifesta Arts Biennale. There is a strong culture of research in the studio with directors, associates and architects involved in many different forms of teaching and art practice.

The practice has lectured and has been published in the UK and internationally. In 2012, 6a architects received the Schelling Medal for Architecture. Its first book Never Modern with Irénée Scalbert was published in 2014. In 2018, architectural monograph El Croquis published the 6a architects edition.
