CSA alumnus shortlisted for
LSE competition

Emerging Lagos-based architecture firm Studio Contra (lead by CSA alumnus Jeffrey Adjei and his partner Olayinka Dosekun Adjei), are pleased to share their competition design entry for the recently concluded London School of Economics: Firoz Lalji Global Hub and Institute for Africa. Studio Contra (in collaboration with award winning British practice, Alison Brooks Architects) were shortlisted for the competition among six finalists from almost 200 international expressions of interest.

Their proposal aims to express the cultural, economic and environmental significance of Africa in one of London's most prominent civic spaces, Lincoln's Inn Fields in synthesis with the immediate context. Drawing from architectural traditions of Africa and the global south the building aspires to the highest standards of environmental sustainability through its material palette, embedded technologies and formal composition. These readings underpin the primary urban approach: subtly curved symmetrical facades that embrace their context, sculpted terracotta cladding that echoes clay-based architectural traditions, and stepped massing, emphasizing rootedness and heft.

Studio Contra has also been featured in this year's Wallpaper Architects Directory (2022): an annual roundup of 20 of the most exciting young architecture studios from around the world.
